Welcome to Those Who Nose, a mini-series of dog-friendly city guides, kindly curated by special guests from around the globe.

Today, in the midst of the festive season, Mungo & Maud looks to London and beyond.  Beckoned from The Royal Ballet's quintessential performance of The Nutcracker, we have the pleasure of inviting Kevin O'Hare, Director of The Royal Ballet, and the handsome 'Fred' to share their favourite addresses in London and further afield.

London Review Bookshop

Sitting right on our doorstop in Bloomsbury, this independent bookshop is a London institution and a regular lifesaver whenever I need a last-minute gift and am stuck for ideas.  A rich selection of book choices and great staff recommendations, it attracts an interesting mix of crowds.

Like most new dog owners, when we first brought Fred home we started searching high and low for dog-friendly places around London to eat and socialise.  The Rosewood Hotel in Holborn has always been super welcoming to dogs and we have spent many evenings at their Holborn Dining Room and enjoying the most excellent cocktails at Scarfes Bar.

Recently opened right next to the London Review Bookshop, this little café is full of temptations from the freshly baked madeleines, sandwiches, pies, tarts – and doughnuts.

I wear a lot of suits and shirts for work and tend to buy most of them from Paul Smith in Covent Garden (who happens to have also just designed a Christmas Tree for us at the Opera House).  I love the colourful yet smart British style of Paul Smith – and Fred loves the attention and belly rubs he always receives from the staff.

TOWN Restaurant

A fairly recent opening (Summer 2025), we love this restaurant’s interiors and vibe, the delicious menu, cocktails – and best of all, it’s super dog friendly!  A great place to entertain and celebrate with friends for any occasion.

Staying in our neighbourhood, Honey & Co serves the tastiest Middle Eastern cuisine.  Small yet perfectly formed with the most delicious seasonal menus on offer – they also have a deli shop and bakery across the road when you just need to grab something on your way home.

We love our life working and living in central London – but from time to time, it is nice to get out to the countryside and breathe some fresh air.  The Cotswolds are within an easy reach and perfect for weekends away.  We are regulars at Soho Farmhouse and love the variety of activities and entertainment options.

In the last year, we discovered the new Estelle Manor, which has a slightly more grown up and exclusive feel.  The spa is wonderful for a bit of physical and mental recovery – although understandably, you’ll need to leave your furry friends in the room.
