Apollonia Poilâne & Rascal

Those Who Nose

Paris

Welcome to Those Who Nose, a mini-series of dog-friendly city guides, kindly curated by special guests from around the globe.

Today, Mungo & Maud is enjoying une promenade à Paris.  We have the pleasure of inviting Apollonia Poilâne, owner of the renowned bakery Poilâne, risen on generations of tradition, and her charming Jack Russell 'Rascal', to share their favourite addresses in the city.

Sudeep Rangi & Rascal

Rascal was born in the Western part of France a little before the onset of the pandemic in 2020.  We drove her over to Paris under the exception pour motif familial impérieux while France was still under its first lockdown.  And for the past two years, she has shared our life, never failing to add joy with her waggy tail.  These are her favourite Parisian spots, translated into human language...

Good things come to those who wait

Boulangerie Poilâne
8 Rue du Cherche-Midi, 75006 Paris, France

I start most of my days in Saint Germain des Prés.  That is where Rascal-mommy works, just above her family’s bakery, Poilâne, on 8 Rue du Cherche-Midi.  The dog hook outside of the store puts me in the perfect space to smell the wonders from the basement’s wood-fired oven.  I reckon on most days, I also hear a daschund howl while their owner buys their daily bread.

Noir Café & Torréfacteur
9 Rue de Luynes, 75007 Paris, France

Mid-morning, I sit in the rays of sun on Noir’s terrace while my humans get their daily coffee.  I put my best paw forward to attract selfies, successfully so.

Sauvage
55 Rue du Cherche-Midi, 75006 Paris, France

At lunchtime, Sebastien of Sauvage always greets me with a large smile and hug, I sometimes get a bone too!

Le Bon Marché pour la bonne chienne

Le Bon Marché
24 Rue de Sèvres, 75007 Paris, France

I spend the rest of my day napping through meetings, moving according to the sunlight.  On our way home, we sometimes make a detour by the only Parisian department store that allows my kind, Le Bon Marché.  Although I am very impressed by the escalators, I love to parade around exploring floors of fashion and accessories and basking in attention from the sales-teams.

Allons-y!

Jardin du Palais-Royal
43 Rue de Valois, 75001 Paris, France

I do cross the river from time to time… I can let go of my parents to run with my fellow friends along the sides of the Jardin des Tuileries.  One of my hubs is the Palais-Royal, with a garden where I like to walk with Rascal-daddy under the platanes.

IBU Gallery
166 Gal de Valois, 75001 Paris, France

Under the arcades, the two Pomeranians in residence, Jeff and Lucifer, greet me at IBU Gallery (that belongs to Rascal-mommy and aunty) which presents functional sculptures and jewellery by contemporary artists.

Rascal at The Twenty-Two Club
Awaiting a table at Bistrot Juvéniles
Rascal, dressed for dinner

The Twenty-Two Club
Appartement Privé Près du Palais-Royal, Rue de Valois, 75001 Paris, France

Bistrot Juvéniles
47 Rue de Richelieu, 75001 Paris, France

I alternate between the Twenty-Two Club (Fox Terriers Napoleon & Money Penny’s parents’ supper club) or Bistrot Juvéniles, where the most beautiful Shar-Pei keeps an eye on chef Romain in the kitchen and Margaux in the restaurant.

Un grand merci to Apollonia Poilâne and Rascal for sharing their favourite Parisian addresses.

The adorable Rascal can be seen wearing the Rope Collection and the Ribbon Pullover, Camel/Lemon.

If you are now filled with longing for a slice of Boulangerie Poilâne, you may find a location to visit or order bread to be delivered to your door.
